"The true story of a young soldier and his extraordinary comradeship."

The Fox is the true story of Franz Streitberger, the great-grandfather of Adrian Goiginger, a motorcycle courier for the Austrian army who was soon drafted into the German Wehrmacht. At the start of World War II, the introverted young soldier encounters an injured fox cub, who he then nurses as if it were his own and takes him to occupied France. Through this unique friendship with the wild animal, his own past as an outcast farmer's son, from which he has always run away, slowly catches up with him...

Emotional human-animal relationship with WWII in the background, without the latter being explored in depth, but still with the conclusion that the entire war event certainly did not correspond to what the young rascals, often driven by poverty, were led to believe.
The emphasis on poverty is certainly in the beginning of the film (the extremely meager and calculated meal of the family) which reaches its climax when the mother slams the door on her own child. One mouth too many at the table... . Strong with an excellent, natural performance by the little Franz.
