Maria Morzeck (Angelika Waller) and Dieter Morzeck (Wolfgang Winkler) are brother and sister and no longer have parents. He is in prison for subversive activities that prevent her from pursuing a career. When dear sister begins an affair with the scrupulous judge who sentenced dear brother, she does not really progress, while the judge continues to climb the social ladder.
