Stay Hungry plot

"If you've got an appetite for life:"

Craig Blake is a rich young man who, however, wants nothing to do with his father's business life. He starts working for a bunch of shady real estate agents and his first assignment is to buy a fitness center. But Craig soon feels a certain sympathy for the bodybuilders who train there, including Joe Santo and the beautiful receptionist Mary. Instead of buying the building for demolition, he decides to save the center from destruction.

Schwarzenegger without weapons and memorable one-liners/quotes, but with muscles, joints and an Austrian accent.

Nice drama. Some whiny roles like Field's. Englund's role is good. Otherwise a good movie with some nice acting from some. Also some nude scenes, including dirty old man RG Armstrong on a fitness machine.

3.0.

Mediocre film about a rich kid who walks into a gym and befriends the people there. Rather fragmented in design where a clear story is hard to discover. Here and there a few nice moments (like the end with the loose body builders). A narrow 2.5 stars because it is especially nice to see a young Jeff Bridges, Sally Field and Arnold Schwarzenegger at work.

Not quite Arnie's acting debut, but the first 'real' film I believe. And also with Jeff Bridges and Sally Field, everyone can figure that out, but who remembers who Roger E. Mosley was - by the way, I recognized him more by his voice than by his face, because he looks considerably younger here than in the role we still know him from. He also has a beautiful scene in this film, he must have thought back on that with pride later. Passed away in 2022 after a car accident, and already 83.

Arnie is in full competition condition in the film, and shortly after won his umpteenth Mr. Olympia title. We also get to see a bit of how extreme that is, but perhaps more interesting is how easily and seemingly naturally he plays his role. That too is hardly worth seeing the film for, just as the story is not really bad, but certainly not good either. Perhaps the most annoying thing is that the entire production is in 70s technicolor - lots of ugly haircuts, pastel colors everywhere. The scenes of the bodybuilders running around the city in their bare feet probably sum up the film best. Crazy stuff, but also very funny, and it actually deserves cult status.
