Cristo Si È Fermato a Eboli plot
Levi is an anti-fascist writer and artist who is exiled to the small village of Aliano in the Lucania (Basilicata) region of southern Italy during the Mussolini regime. The regime believes that Levi's controversial ideas will not be taken seriously by anyone, but he and the villagers appear to have a major influence on each other. He is a doctor by training and will use that knowledge for the villagers. Partly because of this, he is increasingly appreciated by them and vice versa he gets more and more admiration for their survival skills, especially that of the women. Incidentally, the fascist mayor is also proud of "his" exile and visits regularly.
