Unlike the other newbies, Luke remains calm. Dragline, the leader of a group of prisoners, fears for his prestige as Luke gains the respect of the others. It comes to a brutal confrontation.

How wonderful she can rub, that blonde. If you don't include the behavior of the prisoners, quite a funny and especially disarming scene. Ditto for the relaxed attitude that mothers adopt when she visits for a while. That tone does change there, but in this way it comes across as natural. Nothing wrong with it. Just like the Boss with the sunglasses. The type that stays with you when you join Luke's rebellion.

But I'm not, despite the nice opening with the headless parking meters. A number of such individual moments appeal to me, as a whole it is different. Newman is okay, his #37 is stubborn and persistent, but it's also not endearing enough to hang the film on. In addition, I've been quite annoyed, even horribly annoyed by that ever-roaring Dragline.

I've seen Kennedy do something nicer. With him and the rest of the chain gang, Stalag 17 came to mind and that's certainly not a good sign in my case. I don't have much with those religious references, the natural born world shaker was sufficient for me, but as long as it stays with that, go ahead. Unfortunately not the case. No, not my film, although that resounding closing sentence may be there again.

Nice prison/escape drama. I'd heard of the movie before, but I recently came across that 'failure to communicate' scene that suddenly made me want to watch it.

I've seen quite a few prison movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Great Escape, Papillon, Escape from Alcatraz and Escape from Sobibor and I have to say Cool Hand Luke didn't disappoint me in the genre, although it didn't blow me away like some here. There is little to complain about, but also little to be really enthusiastic about. Just an above average movie.

Paul Newman is also highly regarded as an actor, I consider him one of the best actors of his generation. In Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting he was a perfect duo with Robert Redford, but he was very good here too. It invites you to watch more movies with him in the lead role.
