Chi no Mure plot
dr. Unan is a middle-aged doctor in Sasebo. This place has a US naval base and the port is not far from Nagasaki. Unan is asked to treat a young girl with symptoms of illness from the atomic bomb, but her mother denies having been in Nagasaki at the time of the bombing. Another young girl, Tokuko, asks Unan to write her a letter of proof of rape. Tokuko is a burakumin (one of the Japanese underclass) and she was raped by a man from Kaito Shinden, a seaside village where victims of the atomic bomb and their descendants were driven. These two cases remind Unan of his wartime, including an incident involving a Korean-Japanese girl.
