Buddenbrooks - 2. Teil plot

After the death of old Buddenbrook, Thomas, the eldest son, takes charge of the nearly 100-year-old trading house. He marries the beautiful merchant's daughter Gerda. He finds little business support from his brother Christian, because he rather seeks entertainment than work. The two daughters of old Buddenbrook have very different lives. While Clara is happily married to Pastor Tiburtius, Tony has a loveless marriage with merchant Grünlich.
