Bord de Mer plot

In the summer Paul (Zaccai) works as a lifeguard in a small French coastal town, in the winter he works in a supermarket. His mother spends her days at the local casino and his girlfriend works in a factory. Seeing the tourists come and go every year makes her yearn to leave the small place to see what else there is to do in the world. In this way we follow the vicissitudes in this seaside resort for a year.

Well, what exactly happens in a seaside town on the French coast? Not much, if I am to believe this film. The tourists lie on the (pebble) beach and the locals keep running into each other and are busy with their daily worries. That is pretty much it. It all just meanders along, just like the calm sea. Ah, it is certainly not a bad film, and it is even entertaining in parts, but it could have used a bit more punch. There are all those little beach huts on the beach that you can rent during the season. Surely something must happen there at some point? Probably. But we don't get to see it. Hélène Fillières is a stunner, of course. But she's not exactly a cheerful character in this film either. Okay, then I'll go somewhere else.
