Bluebird plot

"Merel, a talented young girl, is suddenly getting bullied at school."

Bluebird is about Merel, a twelve-year-old girl. We follow her closely and see what happens when she is bullied from one day to the next. Merel is silent about the bullying - to her parents, and also to Kasper, her disabled brother with whom she has a close bond and spends a lot of time. The bullying gives her life a hard push in the wrong direction, but Merel keeps on balancing, just on the edge...

Sincere-looking television film with a clear message and a remarkable, self-assured role by Elske Rotteveel, who mainly relies on her body language for lack of text. The scenes in the pool are nice tension-busters, although I did hold my breath —partly because of the context—when she got stuck on the highest dive plan. The last scene at school is a bit of a letdown, but otherwise very well done.

Bluebird has become especially interesting because of the obvious talent of Elske Rotteveel, you felt completely with her character and that even without too much dialogue.

The scenes often had a fade out, which sometimes made it feel more like separate fragments than that it came across as a whole. This was a bit of a shame, but at the same time the largest of the scenes remained at a good level and this was a very nice snack.

The story itself doesn't have much going for it, but it manages to leave a strong impression.

3.5*

I think Elske Rotteveel plays very well and convincingly. The story is easy to follow. Not particularly impressive, as far as I'm concerned, but I think it's a beautiful film and also educational for children. Bullying is stupid! A 7. 3.5*
