Bitter Sweet plot
It is 1933. In a very genteel house, a young couple is arguing at a party. Dolly, who is engaged to wealthy Henry, actually loves Vincent. Vincent is a poor jazz pianist who is performing at the party this evening. The two lovers go to the balcony, where Vincent takes Dolly in his arms. Both are then discovered by Sarah Millick, an old and decent woman. Sarah tells Dolly she has to choose between the two men. Sarah then tells her own, similar life story.
