Bi, Dung So! plot

Six-year-old Bi lives with his parents, his aunt and a maid in an old house in Hanoi. Bi always has to play alone and his favorite spots are the ice cream factory and the wild grass along the river. After years of absence, his grandfather, a retired diplomat, comes home seriously ill. At first, Bi is afraid of this strange man, but in time his curiosity wins out over his fear. The relationship between Bi's parents is very bad. His father, who is usually drunk, tries to avoid contact with his family as much as possible and spends every night with his masseuse. His wife knows, but she has resigned herself to the situation. One day, Bi's prudish aunt, a teacher who is still single, sees a 16-year-old student on the bus who she is deeply attracted to. This event upsets her greatly.
