Badkonake Sefid plot

Tehran, a few hours before the start of the new year. Razeih, a seven-year-old girl, has seen a beautiful goldfish in a store that is much larger than the goldfish in the pond at her home. She wants these to put on the table for the New Year's Eve celebration. After much nagging, she manages with the help of her brother to get money from her mother to buy the fish. Along the way, however, she encounters all sorts of obstacles that delay the coveted purchase.

My third film by Jafar Panahi is a somewhat melancholy story about a 7-year-old heat petit, who, after much nagging, gets money from her mother to buy a goldfish. But unfortunately a few things happen on the way to the store, making the purchase quite an adventure.

Little Aida Mohammadkhani delivers an exceptional performance by mimicking the ups and downs of her experiences. Less poignant than Bacheha-ye Aseman (Majid Majidi, 1997), the absolute topper in this genre, but nevertheless more than worth seeing.

Reminds me here and there of Where Is My Friend's House?, by director Kiarostami, who was responsible for the screenplay here. Small event cinema that doesn't stick as well as its big brother, but is still quite nice.

3.5*

The white balloon does not get the thanks it deserves....

Incidentally, Panahi does not fail to paint an image of culture and society, of adults, of children in his first full-length.

The attraction pole of the film, however, remains the little girl who, with a clear voice, alternates ordinary children's talk with witty retorts. She is also not stupid and she can bring emotion, touching the heart of the viewer.

Perhaps the "grid scene" is a bit long but the film as a whole is interesting and enjoyable to follow.
