Ave Maria plot
Devout but naive villagers fall victim to two charlatans. A former priest and his mistress arrive in a small town and proclaim that they are the "Holy Father" and the "Holy Mother". Soon the inhabitants hand over their land and their possessions to the evil duo. A farmer's daughter sees through them and accuses the villagers of devil worship. She, in turn, is accused of being possessed by Satan and undergoes a violent exorcism. She dies from assault and battery and the two impostors try to hold her father responsible for her death. However, the man is supported by a nun who has prophetic gifts.
