Akane-gumo plot

A film about the tragic love between a poor young woman and a deserter in a region along the Sea of Japan, the "dark" part of the Japanese main island, in the 1930s. Matsuno Niki (Shima Iwashita) is a maid in an inn. Gradually, she develops genuine affection for a traveling salesman - who turns out to be a deserter. When Matsuno discovers his true identity, she speaks the unspeakable, desiring that he survive no matter what.
