Stella Cooke is a lesbian in 1970s Los Angeles. One day she meets gay Belgian immigrant Albert Walreavens, who has just become unemployed. Now he threatens to be expelled from the country, and out of pity she marries him. Over time, however, they begin to feel a heterosexual attraction to each other.
