Watani: My Homeland plot
In Aleppo, largely devastated by the civil war, lives a family with four young children. As a commander of the Free Syrian Army, the father risks his life every day to overthrow the Assad regime. Between the rubble of the virtually deserted residential area, and under the constant threat of bombing and snipers, the family tries to hold their own. Then father is handed over to IS by his own comrades and mother decides it is time to flee. Together with the children she travels via Istanbul to Germany, where they are lovingly cared for in the beautiful old town of Goslar. Despite their traumatic experiences, the children seem to adapt fairly quickly, but mother is having a hard time without her husband and in a foreign culture.
