Verhalen van een Rivier plot

Where the Mulde branches off from the Elbe in a southerly direction is the city of Dessau, in eastern Germany. Before the 'Wende', Dessau was in the GDR and everything was different. No one escapes history. In this 1994 portrait, a number of residents tell what exactly has changed for them – not in a political sense, but in the everyday, individual details. Hans was then a party economist and is now a nurse. Renate previously worked below her level in a factory; Although she does more interesting work now, she misses her colleagues and the mutual solidarity. Angelika has risen from humble employee to successful manager in a brand new office building in Bauhaus style. Thomas was a soldier and is now lost. The elderly Herr Weise cycles everywhere in between.
