Un Gran Casino plot

The gambling house in question is the Casinò di Campione, an architectural abomination that dominates the Italian exclave of Campione d’Italia. Visible from Lake Lugano, the garish, postmodern monstrosity has transformed the surrounding village into a folkloric amusement park. For filmmaker Daniel Hoesl, the casino – which opened in 2007, closed in 2018, and reopened in 2022, all the while profiting from Campione d’Italia’s peculiar fiscal situation – has become a flagship of global capitalism.
