The Great White Silence plot
In 1910, Herbert G. Ponting travels with the famous ship Terra Nova, which sails to the South Pole under the leadership of Robert Falcon Scott. While the journey is primarily a scientific expedition, Scott has set the goal of reaching the southernmost point of Antarctica so that he can do the honors on behalf of the British Empire. Ponting reports the departure from Lytellton, New Zealand, to Antarctica and films the many months the crew has to spend there. This also enables Ponting to extensively film the many wildlife, such as penguins, orcas and sea lions.
