They are drivers, deliverers or handymen for Uber, Deliveroo and TaskRabbit, or perform online tasks to provide algorithms with human knowledge. These 'gig workers' work as small self-employed for large online platforms and are paid per job. Some of them are featured in this documentary: the Nigerian Mitchell from Lagos, who does AI jobs for Amazon, the increasingly less earning, desperate Uber driver Annette from California and the chain-smoking meal delivery boy Leila from Paris, who stands up for a colleague who died in an accident.
