Stammering Ballad plot
Portrait of the Chinese singer Ga Song. An endearing loner, who travels alone from town to town with his acoustic guitar and three-string sanxian, interspersed with walks through the mountains. The camera follows him closely, both during the attractively filmed performances and during travel, eating and sleeping, so that the film makes his nomadic existence tangible. His quirky take on folk music attracts a small audience, and a half-hearted attempt at fame by taking part in China's Got Talent doesn't help either. It gradually becomes clear why Ga leads such a roving, detached life: the village where he grew up has become uninhabitable due to drought, only ruins remain – the place he longs for is no longer there. By singing old folk songs, among other things, Ga resisted the raging progress in modern China, for which even some of his beloved mountains had to give way.
