The world watched with bated breath when Austrian paratrooper and daredevil Felix Baumgartner made a dizzying parachute jump from more than 39 kilometers on October 14, 2012 in New Mexico, an all-time high, making it the first human to break the sound barrier. Cameras attached to Baumgartner's suit recorded the hallucinatory record jump. It was a stunt for which he trained intensively for years under the watchful eye of 82-year-old Colonel Joe Kittinger, the previous record holder. The jump was watched live on YouTube by a record 7 million people, but no one saw the story behind the jump.
