Room for a Man plot
The first thing Anthony Chidiac tells about himself is that life frightens him and that fear paralyzes him. He lives in Beirut with his mother, a French teacher, and rarely leaves the house. The house is his refuge, but in some ways also a prison. The outside world feels hostile to Anthony, partly because he is gay. His own family cannot accept that either, as becomes clear from conversations with his mother and his uncle. His mother had wanted him to become a notary, then he would earn a lot of money and become 'a real man'. But that's not how he sees himself.
