Polar Bears: Spy on the Ice plot
Polar Bear: Spy on the Ice is a two-part BBC documentary about polar bears in the arctic Norwegian Svalbard Islands (Spitsbergen). Using a whole set of camouflaged cameras, an exceptionally intimate portrait is drawn of these charismatic and intelligent animals who find it increasingly difficult to survive as their habitat - snow and ice - is increasingly threatened. We see two pairs of bear cubs emerge from their mother's winter shelter and sniff the camera with unsuspecting curiosity. We follow their ups and downs during an entire season. One bear family ends up on a broken ice shelf in the sea and suffers bitter hunger. The other manages to get to safety over the drift ice and goes on a seal hunt.
