Plastic Harem plot
More and more women in the Middle East are using their bodies to emancipate, away from a tradition of inequality and oppression. The explosive growth of this new subculture has prompted Amsterdam artist Tarik Sadouma to create a major exhibition in Beirut, in which he portrays Arab women as powerful, sexy pop stars. The documentary Plastic Harem follows the run-up to the exhibition and follows the 34-year-old artist during his journey from the slums in Cairo (his parents' hometown) via fashionable Beirut to the palaces of the sheikhs in Dubai.
