Nuytten/Film plot
For twenty years Bruno Nuytten (1945) was a much sought-after and appreciated cameraman. He has worked with directors such as Marguerite Duras, André Téchiné and Claude Berri and has won three Césars, including for Barocco (1976) and the Camille Claudel (1988), directed by him, in which his ex-wife, actress Isabelle Adjani, played the leading role. In the late 80s, he suddenly withdrew from the film world. In Nuytten/Film, camerawoman Caroline Champetier questions him about this decision and the profession that, according to Nuytten, is "ungrateful" because it receives "little recognition". He stopped deliberately, mostly because he felt encapsulated, too much a part of a machine. As a result, he no longer felt free and there was no room for experimentation, which he liked to do.
