My Name Is Albert Ayler plot
"“If people don't like it now, they will.” - Albert Ayler"
Portrait of the controversial avant-garde saxophonist Albert Ayler, who was completely ignored during his short life, but is now regarded as one of the most innovative saxophonists ever. Driven by the power of gospel and blues, Ayler played the saxophone with dizzying intensity in search of spiritual beauty. Artistic integrity and an absolute dedication to a musical vision were essential to him. Which led to him spending most of his short life in poverty. This documentary is largely made up of audio interviews from the period 1963-70, but also contains unique footage of some of his performances.
