Mon Rot Fai plot

The first railway in Thailand was put into operation in 1893. It was a sign of progress and prosperity. In the first class, tourists mingle with the wealthy Thai. The rear carriages are chock full of four people in seats where only two people should be allowed to sit. Food traders move nimbly through the train. People get off and on and the camera moves beneath them, recording everyday life aboard the train on the more than 100-year-old route.
