Matsuri no Uma plot
What bad luck were the twenty-three horses that survived the nuclear disaster at Fukushima in 2011. After surviving the tsunami, they were trapped in their stables near the disaster area, which the Japanese government had sealed off within a 20-kilometer radius. Their keepers were forced to leave the horses behind during the evacuation. The animals were exposed not only to extremely high levels of radiation, but also to starvation. How difficult it is to recover from such a profound neglect is revealed after the surviving horses are moved to stables outside the danger zone. The ribs of our protagonists can be counted for months after that. There is too little money for food, no permission to let them out of the stables, and the lack of exercise gives them colic.
