Love Me or Leave Me plot

In the documentary 'Love Me or Leave Me' we get to know artist Jan Montyn as a restless loner and we find out what role the visual arts play in his life. The setting of the film is largely formed by the countries where Montyn has lived and worked for more than 30 years and with which he has an emotional connection: Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. A large part of his life is devoted to prayer in the gruesome recent history of South-East Asia. In an abstract sense, the documentary is about the influence of the past on the present - about processing major events. This applies to Montyn, former member of the Foreign Legion, but certainly also to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. These are countries where 'the great forgetting' still persists and which are confronted with enormous traumas and problems: political, social and economic. Problems that are all the result of the wars of the 1970s and 1980s.
