Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere plot

"Back and beta than ever."

Louis Theroux delves into the manosphere, an ideological world where young men's ideas about masculinity and being a man are being reshaped. He travels to hotspots like Miami, New York, and Marbella to immerse himself in the world of extreme online influencers and content creators. He examines terms like "red-pilling," looks at how these figures influence the values of young men worldwide, and even interviews the women in their lives who espouse these controversial views.

Louis Theroux and his editors had to go to considerable lengths to secure the cooperation of prominent influencers who, like the Tate brothers (with whom they are friends), promote a controversial view of masculinity. The men do not hesitate to admit that they do and say (almost) anything for clicks and big money, and that they are completely unconcerned with the societal consequences of their behavior. That says it all. The contrast between Theroux and the interviewees makes for awkward, amusing moments, but do not expect any revelations.

This documentary is utterly terrible; it looks like a massive smear campaign. Take the most extreme cases from the so-called manosphere (and I am familiar with quite a few), and cut and paste the most extreme statements out of them without context. That way, the entire script is essentially set in advance. Naturally, you then don't address the real discussions being held by serious people like Rollo Tomassi, Pearl, The Whatever Podcast, or Janice Fiamengo, let alone the underlying problems driving so many people to these kinds of platforms (toxic masculinity, the constant demonization of men in our society), because mainstream media only knows how to lie.

Problems such as the family court system, false alliances, perternity foud, divorce laws etc

Once again, The Red Pill was a much better, but above all, more honest documentary. In all honesty, you can't call this a documentary, but more of a smear piece in which the tone was predetermined.

Ten years ago, Louis Theroux made 'My Scientology Movie' (2016) about the cult community's attempts to get back at him. During 'Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere' (2026), I realized that it is actually not Louis Theroux's strongest episodes in which he himself becomes the target of negative framing. To me, the British-American journalist is at his sharpest when he manages to establish a human connection with the most horrific figures, while simultaneously exposing why their views are so immensely dangerous. In 'Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere' (2026), he rarely succeeds in getting through to those insane influencers. They are too young and too impetuous. Too superficial in their ideological emptiness. Every now and then, Theroux breaks the ice with a joke or a mercilessly critical question, but you immediately notice the gates closing again when these masculine little men lose control of the conversation. What do you really learn from these awkward interviews!?
