Lost Angels: Skid Row Is My Home plot
The Skid Row neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles cannot be found on any official city map. The neighborhood has been inhabited since time immemorial by the scum of the earth: vagabonds, addicts and mentally disturbed. Director Napper does not show us a depressing freak show, but a humane portrait of the denounced neighborhood and its residents. Despite all the misery that Skid Row has to offer, everyone seems to have a special urge to survive, solidarity and community spirit. The district may be the last station, but for many people it is also a place where they can scramble up again. The film is not only a tribute to the colorful figures that populate the streets of Skid Row, but also an indictment of the failing mental health care system in the United States.
