Les Origines du Langage plot
Together with our ability to walk on two legs, our speech and language are one of the most important developments in human evolution. Until the 1980s, scientists thought that speech originated about 100,000 years ago, along with the arrival of Homo sapiens. They were convinced that the human brain and larynx were only then sufficiently developed to allow the development of speech and language. But in the early 1990s, a discovery was made that forced science to reconsider: Paleontologists found a 200,000-year-old larynx of a Neanderthal. Does that mean that even that primitive forerunner of man could already speak? The search for the origin of our speech is a true scientific road movie.
