Le Ciel et la Boue plot
"Men of the space age meet men of the stone age."
In September 1959, six Europeans embarked on a grueling hike from north to south on Irian Jaya, then the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesian West Guinea. The island is 720 kilometers as the crow flies, but the rugged landscape meant that the journey took seven months and cost the lives of three Papuan porters. They encountered tribes who welcomed them kindly into the village, but also cannibals and headhunters come their way. You also have to deal with typical jungle problems such as leeches, malaria and dysentery. In 1962 this documentary won an Oscar.
