L'Arbre de l'Authenticité plot
Photographer and artist Sammy Baloji’s film essay explores the colonial history of the Democratic Republic of Congo and its ecological consequences. Based on research from the 1930s, the film highlights the crucial role of the Congo Basin as a CO2 sink and its influence on our global ecological balance. The film is structured in three parts and combines personal testimonies with scientific discoveries to expose the traces of Belgian colonization and its impact on human lives and nature. Baloji addresses the inherent exploitation and raises questions about its ongoing consequences for a world on the eve of ecological disaster.
