Justifiable Homicide plot
"A mother's relentless battle for justice."
In early 1995, two Puerto Rican boys were shot dead in The Bronx by New York police, who said they acted in self-defense. The boys are said to have been caught initiating a robbery. The case was closed after seven days. "Justified murder," the police report read. However, the mother of the shot Antonio Rosario doubts that reading. Antonio was intelligent, about to start a business, soon to be a father and had no reason to commit a robbery. Suspecting that the police have been hiding information, his mother engages an employee of the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB), an independent agency that monitors the NYPD. Their conclusion: the two officers used unnecessary excessive force. Not long after, the CCRB's director and investigative staff are fired. An independent pathologist also questions the police report. Mother Rosario then finds out that her son's case is not an isolated one. She blames the police misstep on the strict regime of Mayor Giuliani, who advocates an aggressive policy against crime. By founding Parents Against Police Brutality, she hopes to prevent the same from happening to other parents.
