Jonas and the Backyard Circus plot
Thirteen-year-old Jonas's great passion is his backyard circus. He practices clown numbers and acrobatics with his friends, and even gives a Michael Jackson impersonation. The neighborhood children form an enthusiastic audience, Jonas' grandmother encourages him, but his mother has her doubts. After all, she herself gave up her job as a circus artist to give Jonas a good future. And now he neglects his school. When filmmaker Paula Gomes asks Jonas what he thinks is more important, school or circus, he answers politely: "School." But his look says otherwise. Gomes' calm, loving observations emphasize that for Jonas circus and school are two worlds that are difficult to reconcile...
