It Must Make Peace plot
Mali was once a paradise for music lovers and musicians. Traditional music and dance are now rapidly losing ground here under the influence of globalisation, a deteriorating economy and religious radicalisation. Paul R. Chandler and Brian Melnyk spent three years documenting the still existing music scene and everything that threatens it from all corners of Mali. The diverse rhythms, chants, dances and instruments bring more than just entertainment – Malian music heals, heals, celebrates, reflects, encourages, unites. It creates a moment of peace: differences are settled, differences forgotten. In addition to extensive performances, the film contains interviews with concerned musicians, who fear that an entire culture will be lost with early music.
