Ik Ben Geen Ander plot
'What has the Netherlands given you, now that you have lived here for a few years?' a friend asked the Indian director Mani Kaul. 'Extra mature,' was his reply. In Ik Ben Geen Ander he tries to paint a picture of migration, identity and a multiracial society in general on the basis of his own integration in a new country. Ik Ben Geen Anders is somewhere between a home movie and a cinematic essay. Mani Kaul films his children Rumi and Neisha playing games and improving their father's Dutch pronunciation, but also the differences between Dutch and Indian culture and the change in the spoken language in Mumbai. The carnival, the Dutch lesson and a visit to relatives who have left for America. Ik Ben Geen Ander is therefore a film about how different people become familiar with each other and about changing and preserving identity.
