hype! is a 'rockumentary' about the turbulent history of grunge in Seattle, with wildly popular groups such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden as pioneers. Using concert images and irreverent social commentary from the figureheads of grunge, the film paints a picture of this musical and spiritual movement. The irony of the grunge success is coupled with the spectacular breakthrough some Seattle artists have made on the international music front.
