Homemade Stories plot
When the revolution in Syria turned into war, filmmaker Nidal al Dibs fled with his family to Cairo. There he starts filming how his Egyptian friends try to reopen a long-closed cinema in their run-down neighborhood. As this venture faces increasing difficulties, Al Dibs shifts his focus to directing the remodeling of his home in his troubled motherland. With only a camera and some home movies at his disposal, Al Dibs knows how to identify the major problems in the Arab world. For him, cinema stands for dreams and hope, which is also apparent when he asks the local residents in Cairo about their cinema memories. Realizing a dream, however, is another story.
