De Stakende Stad plot
On 25 February, the 75th anniversary of the February Strike is commemorated. On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February 1941, the Germans for the first time, as a reprisal, round up 427 random Jewish men and take them to an unknown destination. Only two men return alive after the war. This raid is the direct reason for the February strike three days later. During the strike, which lasts for two days, the occupying forces fired live ammunition, resulting in nine dead and many seriously injured. Nowhere else in all of occupied Europe has the deportation of the Jews led to such a massive protest.
