The Grande Galerie de l'Évolution at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, with its 7,000 animals on display, presents the diversity of nature. 65 million species are kept in the basement. Foreign researchers visit it to study and identify rare specimens. With Jacques Cuisin, the chief in charge, the documentary takes you behind the scenes of the museum, opens the cellar doors and the researchers tell about field missions taking place all over the world. These researchers explain how knowledge-gathering and collecting began centuries ago and why it enriches science today and tomorrow.
