Ciao Bella Ciao plot
Since 1848, France has been a country of asylum for political refugees. As a result of coups and wars, opponents from around the world have tried to rebuild their lives in this country. When, in 1981, the new President of the Republic, François Mitterrand, reiterated in a speech that his wish was for France to remain a country of asylum, several hundred Italian activists from the extreme left emigrated to French territory. Since then, their situation has not been clear either in Italy, where they were convicted, or in France, where they are considered political refugees.
