Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary plot
"The John Coltrane documentary"
Tenor and soprano saxophonist John Coltrane (1926-1967) is a legend, an inspiring musician who renewed jazz with his investigative and intense solos. In Chasing Trane, Sonny Rollins, Bill Clinton and current star saxophonist Kamasi Washington, among others, tell what makes Coltrane so special, as a musician and as a person. The documentary, with contributions from Coltrane biographer Lewis Porter and critic Ashley Kahn, broadly traces his career, from beginning in Dizzy Gillespie's big band (1949-1951) and two stints with trumpeter Miles Davis (he played in 1959 on the classic jazz record Kind of Blue) to founding his own famous quartet in 1961.
