Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes plot
In a recording studio, big names in jazz, such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, record an album with younger musicians, including Robert Glasper and Ambrose Akinmusire. They represent the old and young generation of the legendary record label Blue Note, which was founded in 1939. The recording of this album is the common thread in the film, which delves into the history of Blue Note. This is done, among other things, through the beautiful black-and-white photos that Francis Wolff one of the two founders of the American label from Germany − took during recording sessions. In addition, there is archive material of, for example, live performances and there are interviews with those involved, including sound engineer Rudy Van Gelder, musicians and fans. The well-known producer Don Was also speaks. He used to admire Blue Note from a distance and is the current director of the label.
