Bird Now plot
Charlie 'Bird' Parker, along with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and a few others, pioneered bebop, a progressive 1940s movement that continues to influence contemporary jazz. During Parker's turbulent life, until his untimely death from excessive drinking and alcohol consumption, bebop remained his regular companion. For once, this documentary does not emphasize the saxophonist's urge to self-destruct, nor on his musical high flyers. Marc Huraux concentrated rather on anecdotes, testimonies; including moving contributions from wife Chan Parker, Gillespie and drummer Roy Haynes, and atmospheric images of contemporary New York.
