Behind Forgotten Eyes plot
Ancient Korean sex slaves talk about the Japanese occupation. Equally old veterans make remarkable confessions on a subject that is still taboo in Japan. A story that has been kept silent for decades. 'Behind Forgotten Eyes' tells the story of the experiences of an estimated 200,000 comfort women from South Korea, Taiwan, China, Burma and the Philippines. During World War II, they were systematically recruited, brutally raped and abused as sex slaves by the Imperial Japanese Forces. Back in their own country, many of the traumatized women who had to endure the nightmare of this slave trade have become 'outcasts'. Deeply ashamed of what happened to them, they bore their suffering in silence for a long time. After half a century, some of them in this film finally have the courage to tell their story.
