"A personal portrait of the inspired neuroscientist Eric Kandel"
Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel has been devoted to the study of the brain for fifty years. He is a highly charismatic and passionate scientist, who transforms his own painful experiences into positive energy in order to explore the fundamentals of human action. He was therefore awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 2000 for his research into the functioning of memory at the molecular level. Kandel's roots are in Vienna and he still remembers how Nazis looted the Kandel's apartment a few days after Eric's ninth birthday. They stole the gift he was delighted to receive, a blue toy car, as did his mother's fur coat. In 1939 he managed to flee to the United States with his family, where they settled in the New York Bronx. It seems like he is always smiling, but of course there are also moments when things don't work and he gets upset. Meet Eric Kandel, the rock star of brain science.
