Anyone who has occasionally been in the vicinity of the IJ over the past ten years has been able to see it: one spectacular building after another has been erected on the banks of the IJ in Amsterdam, and a lot has happened in the field of urban planning as well. With impressive buildings such as the new Public Library and EYE, the new film museum on the IJ, as eye-catchers. In the past three years, developments took an unexpected turn as the economic crisis hit. Director Remy Vlek made a documentary about the new city centre. The documentary paints a picture of the developments in the last ten years, but also shows how the economic crisis has taken an unexpected turn. Ambitious plans are thwarted and a new period of reflection has begun.
